On January 16, 1980 a meeting was held by people interested in starting a church in Port Hardy which was led by Bill Plant (Pastor of Port McNeill Baptist). A Bible Study group was formed as a result of that meeting. The Bible Study Group met weekly on Thursdays with the first meeting held on January 24, 1980.

On August 7, 1980 Pastor Gordon & Lorene Cook came to check out this new beginning and moved to Port Hardy October 30, 1980 to serve the Port Hardy Fellowship Baptist Church. The first Sunday morning service took place on January 18, 1981 at Eagleview School. By the fall of 1981 a portable building was brought to Port Hardy and after a lot of “work bees” the building was ready for its first Sunday morning church service on June 6, 1982. The church became a registered charity in 1984. Pastor Gordon & Lorene Cook served until the fall of 1984. Pastor Dean & Grace Clarke served from 1985 to 1986.

The Port Hardy Baptist Church constitution and by-laws were developed in 1985 but they were recently rewritten in 2003. Then in 1986 the church became a member of the Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches of British Columbia in 1986. By 1999 the church was no longer a mission church.

There have been several other pastors served since 1986. Pastor Dwight & Sandra Geiger arrived in April of 1987 and remained until January 1995. Then Pastor Alan & Beth Paetz from Sept 1995 to spring 1997. Pastor Tim & Kelly Klaassen from Sept 1997 to May 2001. From June 2002 to December 2016, Pastor Kevin & Lauren Martineau were serving at the Port Hardy Baptist Church.

In 2019 we welcomed Tim Viers and his family as our current serving pastor.

Our church is a member of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada, a national denomination of some 500 churches and Fellowship Pacific.
